Le Vieux Rufisque is part of the Tentative list of Senegal in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Old Rufisque is a fishing village turned into a trading town in the late 19th century. Peanuts were the main trade products. It lies at the base of the Cap-Vert Peninsula and is now a suburb of Dakar. Its port was connected to the Dakar-Saint Louis railroad in 1885.
